Gloria Keh(The Birth of Creation_36×36inches(90×90cm)_Ink on canvas_2013)Singapore

Notes:

This is one of my favourite artworks. It honors womanhood and acknowledges Mother Earth, giving thanks for all of creation. Wanted the work to be in just black and white in respect of the energies of yin and yang. The need for balance in our lives if we are to save not just ourselves but also the planet.

The female form is contemporary and depicts a pregnant belly,

denoting fullness, procreation, nurturing and nourishment.

Gloria Keh(Death of a Dragon (but the dragon never dies)

_65×70inches(165×177cm)_ Acrylic on canvas_2018)Singapore

Notes:

I was born in the year of the dragon and identify strongly with dragon energy.

The dragon is an auspicious symbol for many Asian cultures and

represents good fortune and good luck.

In this abstraction, I question will the dragon ever die?

It is a mythical creature. So legendary and yet eternally present.

How could something so powerful  ever die? Spirit never dies.

Gloria Keh(Unity_30×30inches(76×76cm)_ Mixed media on canvas_2020)Singapore

Notes:

Every year I make a painting to commemorate the national day of my country, Singapore.

This falls on the 9th of August.

Last year(2020) was very difficult for many in the world. Covid brought uncertainties, fear and life since then has certainly changed.  This artwork was painted during our two month lockdown in Singapore. I used our two national colors of our state flag. In view of the pandemic challenges, I felt the need for unity was needed more so than ever.  Singapore is a multi racial country, and unity is an important factor amongst our many races and religions, if we want to continue to live in peace.

Gloria Keh(The Flowering of Peace_36×36 inches(90×90cm)_ Acrylic on canvas_2021)Singapore

Notes:

Although I live in equatorial Singapore, where there are no seasons,

I have lovely memories of the beautiful changing seasons of temperate lands.

Each year I paint something to welcome spring, and the chinese lunar new year.

This artwork was painted for the lunar year of the ox.

It honors Spring and embraces renewal.

It expresses hope for new beginnings and better times for the planet,

in view of the pandemic.

It is an abstraction of flowers. Symbolising beauty and growth.

As well as sacrifice. Notice how a flower willingly dies so that

a fruit can grow in its place. Flowers dont make a fuss about dying.

And they bring beauty to the world. Beauty in itself is a form of healing.

And this planet is very much in need of healing.
