[Feature Interview] “Oriental YI-TAI” Artist Lin, Jia-Ton (Morris) Honored with the “Professor With Profession” International Doctorate Gold Award

Recipient of India’s Most Authoritative and Prestigious Art Accolade: The Raja Ravi Varma Award

By Wu, Hui-Lien (Anasha) reporting from India | April 6, 2026

[Feature Interview] Oriental YI-TAI Artist Lin, Jia-Ton (Morris) Honored with the “Professor With Profession” International Doctorate Gold Award

Recipient of India’s Most Authoritative and Prestigious Art Accolade: The Raja Ravi Varma Award

By Wu, Hui-Lien (Anasha) reporting from India | April 6, 2026

Taiwanese ink artist Dr. Morris Lin (Lin, Jia-Ton), founder of the "Oriental YI-TAI" system, has once again shone on the international stage, receiving dual global honors. In the prestigious "Professor With Profession" 2026 International Art Competition & Online Exhibition—an event exclusively designed for global academic artists and educators—Dr. Lin’s profound foundation in Eastern philosophy and innovative visual language captivated the judges. His representative ink masterpiece, Celestial Momentum (175 x 60 cm, Ink and Acrylic), was selected as the cover art for the international digital exhibition catalogue, serving as the central visual focus of the entire event. Simultaneously, his work Celestial Vein (125 x 60 cm, Ink) won the highest honorary doctorate gold medal—the Raja Ravi Varma Award.

Standing out among numerous international competitors, Dr. Lin has once again elevated the global stature of Taiwan's contemporary ink painting. The jury unanimously agreed that Dr. Lin’s work successfully bridges ancient I Ching wisdom with modern energy science. His "Oriental YI-TAI" system and core spirit of "Wave Frequency Art" not only possess academic depth but also reach an artistic peak of visual resonance that transcends national borders. These accolades are not merely a result of technical mastery but reflect a high-level integration of cultural interpretation, formal structure, and contemporary vocabulary, possessing both an Eastern spirit and international readability.

In international art competitions, the cover of the exhibition catalogue is regarded as the "Artistic Soul" and "Quality Benchmark" of the entire show, representing a high degree of consensus among academic professionals regarding the artist's creative language. The cover piece, Celestial Momentum, utilizes a vertical "Heaven-Earth Axis" composition, establishing a majestic and structural visual language. The piece generates a strong vertical pressure and upward momentum, with a grand spirit that surges from the earth to the clouds. It embodies the innovative transformation of brush and ink through a "layer-resonance effect field," pushing environmental changes and internal willpower to a visual climax, perfectly illustrating the vigorous power of "The movement of heaven is full of power" (Tian Xing Jian).

The composition of clouds, rocks, waterfalls, and boat shadows forms an order connecting heaven and earth, symbolizing the fluctuations of the external world while responding to the steadfastness of the inner mind. The juxtaposition of ink and acrylic allows traditional brushwork and contemporary media to overlap with clear layering, presenting tranquil deep blues and profound emerald greens. Compared with the contemporary master Zao Wou-Ki, who pursued the beauty of cosmic chaos, Morris Lin clearly delineates the trajectory of "Celestial Momentum" within that chaos. Therefore, Celestial Momentum is not just a high-level composition; it is a complete demonstration of pushing the Eastern spirit onto an international cover—a supreme honor that manifests personal style and Taiwan’s artistic influence.

The "Professor With Profession" Doctorate Gold Award is named after Raja Ravi Varma (1848–1906), the "Father of Modern Indian Art." The award emphasizes the master's innovative spirit of blending tradition with modernity, making art more accessible and culturally influential. It symbolizes the "highest inheritance of classic aesthetics and traditional techniques." Dr. Lin’s award-winning work, Celestial Vein, interprets the invisible yet palpable flow of "Qi-veins" between nature and the universe through a horizontal ink composition. Using his original "Wave Frequency Art" concept, he captures a rhythmic sensation akin to the ebb and flow of tides—the rhythm of the "YI-TAI Symphony"—showcasing the spiritual aura of heaven and earth through the movement of ink and clouds. The jury noted that the work precisely captures the vivid "Qi-resonance" of all things through the transformation of void and solid in ink tones.

The vitality of Morris Lin’s art stems from his original "Oriental YI-TAI" system and "Wave Frequency Art" methodology. He advocates that an artwork is not a simple depiction of objects but the generation and transmission of a dynamic energy field that resonates with the viewer's soul. By encoding the wisdom of I Ching—the interplay of Yin and Yang, strength and softness, void and solid—into the rhythm of the canvas, he transforms abstract philosophy into a perceptible visual order. He proposes the "YI-TAI Symphony" technique, where the breaks and continuations of brushstrokes simulate the pulse signals of the I Ching hexagrams, and the varying tones of ink correspond to the cycles of the Five Elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water). This creates a "Wave Frequency Field" that achieves psychological resonance with the viewer, smoothing away anxiety through a flowing aura and serving as a mysterious conduit that balances the body and mind while linking heaven and earth.

Deeply analyzing Dr. Lin's work through a cross-temporal dialogue with global masters reveals unique traits: In Celestial Vein, the horizontal composition layouts a continuous flow of air and cloud energy. Compared to Zhang Daqian’s splashed-ink landscapes, while Zhang excelled in grand abstract momentum, Morris Lin transforms that momentum into structural "energy paths," emphasizing the "breath" of the negative space. Compared to the "Peak of the Japanese Art World," Yokoyama Taikan, whose works show "magnificent majesty," Dr. Lin focuses more on the philosophical level of energy resonance, transforming natural scenes into spiritual language. This fusion of Eastern rational structure and Western color tension was key to conquering the international jury.

This globally watched academic event was initiated and hosted by Dr. Rakesh Chaudhary, founder of the Bindaas Artist Group (BAG) in India. The competition gathered academic artists and renowned mentors selected by professional institutions worldwide. Partner organizations spanned Europe, America, and Asia, including the World Culture Exchange and Commerce Association (WCECA) led by Chairperson Wu, Hui-Lien (Anasha), who provided vital support to the participating artists. The international jury pointed out that the overall standard of entries this year was exceptionally high. After multiple rounds of selection, only 18 artists worldwide were named in the official winners' list. This honor not only highlights Dr. Lin's personal achievement but also represents a significant milestone for contemporary ink art on the global stage.
